Oppo, the time has come for me to move to another position within my company. After nearly two years of being a design engineer and detailer for a company that produces a large number of trade show booths and exhibits, I’m moving to another department. I thought I’d pass along some cool images of things we’ve produced and stuff I’ve worked on.

Chances are that if you’ve been to an auto show, you’ve seen some of our products. We service a large number of automotive companies including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Mini, Hyundai, Genesis , Toyota, Lexus, Buick, GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Aisin, OnStar, and a few others in addition to Kubota, some tech companies, a few pharma and chemical companies, and a huge number of others that I can’t fit in here.

Enjoy the photos, and feel free to ask me anything. I’ll do my best to respond but understand there’s still a few industry and company details that I’m unable to get into.

Good luck in your new position!

So after all this time, what's the the coolest thing you created on your job?

What is the new position?  Next friday is the last day at my job, but i’m moving to a new company.  Its somewhat difficult to get promoted in a company of only 2 people....

yeah, I’ve been a presenter/demonstrator for exhibits at both NAIAS and CES, and the amount of work and coordination needed to build everything is dizzying.

and it’s also made me well aware why certain things have to be done by certain people, so I don’t miss any chance to correct ignoramuses who say things like “*snerk* like you really need an electrician just to plug in an extension cord. ”

Most of the cool stuff that I’m proud of isn’t usually shown. I really appreciate the small details in things, but if we’re going for straight up flashy, working on the Jack Ryan Experience for comic con was pretty rad:

It was a VR installation with a 1:1 replica UH-60 , motion platforms, a zlipline, and a whole obstacle course. It was pretty neat.

Oh yeah! We did the LG booth for the past two years with the big waterfall screen thingy. Samsung for a few years before that too. It looks so clean and presentable but the amount of work that goes into it behind the scenes is absolutely staggering.

Good luck with the move. You know, I (and others) always know that someone designs and makes these displays and whatnot for these shows. Just never really think about who that person, those people, are. It’s kind of an unsung hero situation because that shit ain’t easy, and it’s not quick work, but they set the tone/feel/etc for the company, event, show, etc. Well done.

What was your favorite project ever?

The ATV(?) mockup reminds me a bit of the Famae Corvo.

It was modeled after a Willys MB, but another auto company was sponsoring the event and they vetoed anything that resembled another brand so we had to remake it to what you see.

How did you shrink that M logo down from one of the 743 that are found on a standard BMW?
